| Verifying in a Dispute |
| |
Durable, verifiable and self-contained
proof.
All data needed to verify the authenticity of the
Registered Receipt™ or have the original,
authenticated e-mail, transmission information,
and attachments regenerated, is packaged into the
Registered Receipt™ itself. The RPost Registration
System™ can regenerate the original content
and attachments of a Registered E-mail® without
storing any of the original e-mail content, transmission
information, or other data.
This Delivery Receipt, which is sent back to the
sender's inbox, is in an authenticable form ready
for verification at any time in the event of a dispute.
It is a stand alone document and can be forwarded
from person to person, or saved on disk and put
on anyone's computer for authentication.
To verify the authenticity of a Registered Receipt™,
forward the Delivery Receipt with all attachments
in place to verify@rpost.net. |
| |
 |
| |
Within minutes, a Receipt Authentication™
e-mail is returned to the address that requested
verification.
The Registered Receipt™ authentication regenerates
the transmission data and delivery status of the
e-mail as well as re-presents the original e-mail. |

| |
In the event of a dispute, all the sender has
to do is forward the Delivery Receipt of the corresponding
Registered E-mail® to the person who is disputing
the sending, delivery, times or content of the Registered
E-mail®. Anyone who receives this Registered
Receipt™ in electronic form can authenticate
it himself or herself.
To authenticate any Registered Receipt™, the
person with the dispute simply presses "Forward"
and types in the verification address which is noted
in the text at the top of the delivery receipt (verify@rpost.net).
As soon as the receipt comes back into the RPost
Registration System™, the system unzips the
attachments and runs them through special algorithms
to determine if they have been tampered with. The
RPost Registration System™ sends a Receipt
Authentication™ e-mail that is returned to
the address that sent the Registered Receipt™
for authentication.
Common Questions:
Will the Registered Receipt™ verification
process work if the receipt is forwarded?
Yes. The receipt can be forwarded as many times
as needed without losing its integrity as long as
the attachments remain intact and attached.
How long does it take for the Receipt Authentication™
to return?
The authentication process is automatic so it will
take as long as it takes your mail client to send
and receive e-mail, plus some processing time. The
verification is typically returned by e-mail within
fifteen minutes.
Can I forward the Delivery Receipt to the
person who is disputing the validity and write a
note at the top of the e-mail?
Yes. As long as the attachments associated
with the Delivery Receipt remain intact, the Delivery
Receipt will authenticate without problems. However,
it is important to note that it should not be sent
to the verification system "Registered"
- it should be sent to the verification system by
plain e-mail.
What is the difference between "verifying"
an e-mail by using the Registered Receipt™
as opposed to verifying an e-mail that has been
sent with a Digital Seal™?
The sender receives the "Registered Receipt,"
therefore, they can verify the authenticity of the
Registered Receipt™ or they can send the Registered
Receipt™ to someone who is questioning the
transmission and that person can verify the authenticity
for himself or herself.
With an e-mail sent with a Digital Seal™,
the sender is providing the first recipient, or
any future recipient the capability of verifying
authorship and content of the **original** e-mail
sent. Any recipient can verify the integrity of
that e-mail with the Digital Seal™ .
Therefore, in short, a Registered Receipt™
provides verifiable proof of delivery and proof
of content for the **sender** or anyone who the
sender authorized to have this capability. By contrast,
an e-mail with a Digital Seal™ provides verification
of authorship and original content/attachments for
**any recipient** of the Digitally Sealed e-mail. |
