| Anatomy of a Registered Receipt™ |
| |
|
The core value of the RPost service is the functionality of the Registered Receipt™ , which is returned to the sender within one business day. The Registered Receipt™ is tamper-detectable, and provides the sender with a verifiable record of the entire transaction. It provides:
- Proof of sending
- Proof of delivery
- Proof of content delivered (including attachments)
- Proof of legal time sent and received
- All in a verifiable and tamper-detectable e-mail.
Again, RPost does all of this without storing any e-mail or attachment content.

The Registered Receipt™ is returned to the sender of a Registered E-mailŪ and
can be set to be stored in a separate folder within the sender's inbox called (R)eceipts™
which is automatically created when the first receipt is returned to the sender.
The Delivery Receipt is delivered after a few minutes and up to one business day after the e-mail has been sent, depending on different factors. There is however no delay in the delivery of the e-mail compared to an unregistered or standard e-mail.
One Registered Receipt™ is returned containing the transmission information for all of the recipients of a particular Registered E-mailŪ sent.
Common Questions:
What would make the Delivery Receipt vary in time it takes for it to return to the sender?
Factors that determine the time it takes for the Delivery Receipt to return to the sender are, among others:
- The number of recipients the e-mail is sent to. The more people cc'd, bcc'd, the longer the system may take to determine legal delivery for each e-mail address because there is a greater chance that one of the recipients' servers will respond more slowly.
- If there is a delivery failure (usually due to an incorrect address, mailbox full or recipient server problems) then the RPost system tries to re-deliver the message for several hours before sending back the Delivery Receipt with a Delivery Failure.
- The mail server settings of different recipients may vary. RPost provides the greatest amount of information possible about the delivery of the e-mail. The time it may take to receive information from different recipients systems may vary.
What if I send an e-mail to 10 people -- do I get 10 receipts?
No. Each e-mail message, regardless of the number of recipients, will have one Delivery Receipt. The only difference is that in the Delivery Status section, there will be a row of information for each recipient.
What happens if I accidentally delete the receipt, will RPost provide me with another?
No. Neither RPost nor any other party stores a copy of the original e-mail, any content of the original e-mail or any additional copies of the Registered Receipt™ . The sender is responsible for saving this Registered Receipt™ in electronic form. The sender can, however, designate a second e-mail address
for RPost to send a copy of Registered Receipts™ . The sender has total control of their information.
